2007 Texas Salsa Championship Rules
How many entries may a group submit?
We let each group decide what is best for them. Many groups take the workshop and enjoy watching the competition performances and social dancing on stage. Other groups may choose to compete with multiple entries in each category.
We encourage all groups to take advantage of the opportunity to take the Master Class with Al and Karla Espinoza who offer world class instruction in Millennium style salsa.
Entries will be taken on a first come first serve basis. We recommend that contestants study the tentative schedule and limit costume changes. The schedule is based on the maximum number of entries and there maybe less time to change costumes than currently appears on the schedule.

Release Forms
Release forms are a requirement for participation.
Release form MUST BE SUBMITTED by each individual dancer participating in the workshops showcases, exhibitions or competitions. Release forms will be due at the time of payment along with Championship Application. |

Time and Tardy Penalty
Check your performance times carefully--All times are approximate! Allow
time for Dallas traffic. Dancers who are not ready to perform when their
number is called will receive a five point penalty from each of the four judges and they will be bumped to the end of the category. If dancers arrive after a category has been completed they will miss their opportunity to perform and compete.

Substitutions
Teachers may substitute dancers and
change the music as long as they remain in the same age division and
category. If you change the name of your entry, please Email us the new name referenced by the assigned Entry number on or before March 4th. You may change the music after the March 4th date but the Championship staff will refer to your entries by the names on file on March 4th.
When substitution or additions
are made the entry must remain in the original category. If dancers do not
qualify for the original category the dancers may perform but not compete
for trophies.
For example, in the small ensemble four prepare a number for competition and one drops out. There is a problem because three dancers remain and this does not meet the required number of dances for the small ensemble competition. A replacement is required or the dancers are not eligible to compete. In the large group category
another dancer wants to compete but you already have 16 so you cannot add another dancer because that bumps the group to the production category.
Couple 2 dancers
Small Ensembles (4 to 8 dancers)
Large Ensembles (9-16 dancers)
Production (17 or more dancers)

Level Awards
Level Awards are presented in categories with ten or more entries. Level Awards are Best Beginner Entry, the Best
Advanced-Beginner Entry, and the Best Intermediate Entry. Levels will be marked
on all critique sheets to allow judges to evaluate the students based on
their length of study. Levels are calculated counting
SEMESTERS
of study. If a student studied 4 semesters with you and 2 semesters
previously with another instructor, the student has studied a total of 6
semesters.
To determine levels add the number of
completed semesters of study and divide by the number of dancers. Do not
count the current semester because it has not been completed. If the average
level of a group falls between divisions with a fraction of .5 or larger the
group will be required to complete the next level. Summer study will be
counted as one semester.
Please read the
criteria carefully errors in filling out the level and age divisions will
result in disqualification of the routine.
Levels
-
New Beginners students average length of instruction falls between 1 full semester to 1.4)
-
Advanced-Beginners average length of instruction falls between 1.5 to 2.4 semester.
-
Intermediate students
average length of study falls between 2.5 and 3.4 semesters.
-

Dressing Rooms
We will be using the gymnasium as a giant dressing room. We have a limited number of tables that will be available on a first come first serve basis. Please bring hanging racks etc. Bathrooms are near by when privacy is needed. |
|
|
Props
Hats, canes, chairs, and other props may be used. Any minor scenery must be set up and taken off within time limits. Special lighting, knives, and fire are strictly prohibited. |
|
|
Stage Preparation Time
There
will be no rehearsal time on stage. Groups are to prepare to perform on a proscenium stage with dimensions of 40 X 50.
From
working with competition teams since 1986, I recommend facing different walls
in your studio during rehearsals. Two weeks before a competition, I recommend using a different
studio or location to practice. Then return to your regular space and work on
the spacing problems.

|
|
Warm-up
Room 279 will be available for warm-up.
Please remember that all groups would like to stretch and warm-up before performing so do not rehearse and monopolize the studio.
The gym may also be used for warm-up. Please remain on the blue covering.

Contestants, sponsors, and chaperones must conduct themselves
as ladies and gentlemen. Good sportsmanship will be required for participation.
Smoking and eating are not allowed in the auditorium, gymnasium, or classrooms at any time. Students eating in the auditorium, gymnasium classrooms or
dressing rooms will immediately be disqualified from the entire competition.
Directors please monitor your students closely. Unfortunate and embarrassing circumstances can be avoided. Property damage in the building must be reported at
once. Deliberate damage to property will result in the forfeit of all awards and
result in the probationary status for the entire group for two years. Groups will be
charged for the restoration of damaged property.
