Welcome from Jose Reyes, ANGF member and resident of Washington. D.C.

Please put in the attached photo.

Welcome to Washington D.C., MY HOME TOWN! Being a true Washingtonian, born and raised, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our Nations Capital!

I hope you are ready to enjoy your visit to DC, so many wonderful things to see and do during your stay.

Take a walk on the National Mall; NO it’s not a BIG Shopping Mall; it’s the area where you can visit the Smithsonian Museums, Art Galleries, and National Monuments. Visit museums such as the Air and Space, American History, Natural History and the NEW Native American Museum. You can see wonderful and majestic monuments like the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, The Vietnam Veterans and Korean War Memorial and the newest addition the World War II Memorial. Visit our National Zoo, and see one of DC favorite residents, Tai Shan the Baby Panda.

Walk into the National Archives building where the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution are kept. Take a tour of the White House and US Capitol. Visit historic Georgetown, and its surrounding shops and wonderful restaurants.

During this time of year you can take in the experience of visiting the National Folklife Festival on the National Mall. Past artists have included Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, José Gutierrez y Los Hermanos Ochoa, Martha Gonzales of Quetzal (California) and last year they had Los Camperos del Valle (Huasteco). (http://www.folklife.si.edu/center/festival.html)

Let’s not FORGET the AMAZING 4th of July Fireworks Show on the National Mall! It’s a MUST see.

In Virginia you can take a wonderful tour of Mt Vernon, the plantation of our Nations First President. Enjoy the sights in Old Town Alexandria; it’s a colonial town similar to Georgetown. The Arlington National Cemetery is also in Virginia, take a tour and visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and President Kennedy.

The Fashion Centre at Pentagon City is about 3 min away (via Metro) from the host hotel. Here you will satisfy your shopping needs, there is also a LARGE food court to fill your stomach. Nearby you will find movie theaters, Target and other shops to satisfy your urge to splurge.

 Weather tips:

July in DC is VERY HUMID! Shorts and t-shirts highly recommended.  I suggest light colors, it reflects the sun away.

 Transportation: www.metroopensdoors.com

The best way to get around DC is by Metro (sub way). DC from the Host Hotel is about 10 min away. You can get off right on the National Mall.

Remember this phrase “STAND on the RIGHT and WALK on the LEFT” while riding the escalators on the Metro System.

Safe travels,

José Reyes
