The Folklórico Festival of  Texas is committed to the advancement of:

  •  Hispanic students in higher education.
  • Hispanic participation in college and university dance programs.
  • The study of folklórico at the college/university level as a curricular and extra-curricular activity.

The presence of college university programs at our festival is an important component for the future success of Hispanic dance students and the future success of folklórico as a field of study within the college and  university curriculum. The participation of the University of Texas- Pan American , Ballet Folklorico Huehuecoyotl from Elgin Community College, and St. Edwards University at our festival have set the standards for colleges participation. This impact extends beyond North Texas because groups traveled from as far as
St. Edwards University           California and Illinois to our festival.

College and University groups are encouraged to participate in the festival whether or not they have folklórico curricular or extra-curricular programs. College and University students that do not take part in established folklórico programs may participate at the Festival in the FREE Fun  Beginner Workshops, serve as a volunteer, or by just sitting in the audience and enjoying the various presentations. Merely viewing the festival is an educational experience.  Last year, the dance traditions of twenty-nine of Mexico's thirty-two states were represented at the festival.

Established college and university folklórico programs are encouraged to set up a FREE  information booth, participate in the master classes with the Maestros de Mexico, present showcase performances, to compete, and to submit works for pre-adjudication for La Gran Competencia de Cuadros Folklóricos. All competition events solo, duet/trio, small group, large group, production, cuadro and the Gran Competencia are open to college students.
